TV ratings – 16 August: The One Show lifted by new presenters
Alex Jones and Jason Manford attract 4.5m viewers to their debut – 600,000 up on last week’s average for The One Show
The One Show’s new presenters, Alex Jones and Jason Manford, gave the programme a immediate ratings boost with just over 4.5 million viewers tuning in last night, Monday 16 August.
Jones and Manford’s debut, which featured guests including Whoopi Goldberg, was watched by 4.532 million viewers and attracted a 23.5% audience share from 7pm on BBC1 (4.457 million/23.1%) and BBC HD (75,000/0.4%).
This compared with an average audience of 3.9 million (21.1%) for the show last week. Christine Bleakley’s debut on the show on the same date in 2007 – 16 August – attracted 3.4 million (19.3%), while on the equivalent Monday last year, 17 August, 3.3 million watched (18.1%).
As usual, however, The One Show was well beaten in the 7pm slot by Emmerdale, which attracted 6.298 million (32.7%) on ITV1 and ITV1 HD.
The other 7pm competition came from Dan Snow’s Norman Walks on BBC2 (1.12 million/5.8%), Channel 4 News (700,000/3.5%, C4+1 43,000/0.2%) and Five News (154,000/0.8%).
