Aussies lapping up critics’ rotten films
CRITICS may not rate them, but Australian filmgoers are spending huge on bad movies.
More than half of the Australian box office top 10 films have received “rotten” reviews on motion picture critic website Rotten Tomatoes, with box office leader Clash of the Titans labeled one of the worst.
The Sam Worthington 3D blockbuster has received a dismal 29 per cent rating – a score of less than 60 per cent rates a film as “rotten” – yet has still taken nearly $8 million since opening last week.
The Miley Cyrus teen drama, The Last Song, fared even worse, scoring just 13 per cent but still ranking No. 4 in national box office takings with $1.4 million.
