Kelly Rowland: Here I Am – review

Between Kelly Rowland’s profile-raising stint as an X Factor judge and the ubiquity of her autumn hit Down for Whatever, this album should have been packed with enough “plot” to send it straight to the top 10. Yet it stalled at 43 (though it reached No 3 in the US), and that is regrettable; it’s a confident, forthright collection that puts paid to the perception that she is Beyoncé Knowles’s former sidekick. Though not the most characterful singer, Rowland compensates by choosing expressive, memorable songs (including the lewdly pulsing All of the Night, which contains the head-scratching line: “It’s going ...

Lil Wayne: ‘Sorry 4 the Wait’ mixtape

Since his release from prison, fans of Lil Wayne have been looking forward to his next album, Tha Carter IV. And honestly, we should already have it by now. Weezy’s sequel to his 2008 smash Carter III was originally slated for a spring release, but has been pushed back to Aug. 29. And with his latest single “How to Love” sitting pretty in the top 10 of Billboard hot 100 singles chart, that date finally seems like a reality. Still, Wayne feels that an apology is is order. Enter Sorry 4 the Wait, a mixtape that he released this morning ...

Bush To Release First New Album in 10 Years

Bush (L to R): Robin Goodridge, Chris Traynor, Corey Britz, Gavin Rossdale For the first time since their 2002 disbandment, Bush is back. The Gavin Rossdale-led band, perhaps ideal known for a string of wildly successful ‘90s hits including “Glycerine” and “Machinehead,” are set to debut a brand new album on September 13 — with a few changes. The Sea of Memories will be released on their very own Zuma Rock Records through an exclusive partnership with eOne music.

Music Review: All of You

The Malibu songbird’s sound — full of carefree acoustic strums and beach-ready romance — is built for blandness, so her greatest struggle has always been breaking through all that aggressive pleasantness. Luckily, her third album, All of You, proves there is more to her than a smile and a hair toss. Caillat plays with rhythmic touches (the high-spirited handclaps on ”Brighter Than the Sun”) and adds a dollop of country heartbreak to both her voice and her lyrics. On the ruminative title track, for example, world-weary pathos practically drips off the line ”I’m
no good at guessing.” Nothing here ...

Miranda Lambert Teases Duet with Husband, ‘The Voice’s’ Blake Shelton (Video)

Miranda Lambert at the 2011 Grammys. When Miranda Lambert performed on ABC’s Good Morning America Friday, she had a few announcements to make. VIDEO: Stevie Nicks, Miranda Lambert, OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder, and Train’s Pat Monahan Hit Up ‘The Voice’ First of all, she’s coming out with a new album called Four The Record, which the deep country star states has “a lot of meanings.” To add more meaning to the album’s release (or maybe to make it easier for us to remember), the album releases on “11-1-11,” which GMA’s Lara Spencer very astutely points out, “I like how that’s all ...

Beyonce: ’1 + 1′ in N.Y. Central Park

The high of selling millions of albums, headlining a big tour, and basically being a worldwide ambassador of girl power requires a major force to come down from. Last year, it took an ocean’s waves to wash away Beyoncé’s larger-than-life modify ego, Sasha Fierce. “The ocean makes me feel really small,” she states at the top of her MTV special Beyoncé: Year of 4–which aired last night.

Music Review: Better Day

Parton is that rare singer who can make optimism seem like a viable philosophy. When country music goes upbeat, it often traffics in cornball novelty tunes, but Dolly plays her album full of love ‘n’ hope with straight-up sincerity. In the midst of hard economic times, the positive anthems that fill Better Day — all new material, no covers — come off as brilliant strategy, with some equally brilliant vocal performances. Beyonce’s 4 Album: What Critics Say

Beyonce’s fourth solo album, the aptly titled 4, hits stores Tuesday. What are the critics saying? “As flexible as her voice is, it’s wasted on songs that would not stick in your head even if they were smeared with ‘Crazy in Love’ glue,” laments the New York Post’s Dan Aquilante. PHOTOS: What Beyonce and other Hollywood notables splurged on when they made it big “The CD snores on with “I Care,” “I Miss You” and “The Best Thing I Never Had.’” adds Aquilante. “The lady finally puts a ring on “4″ in the hip-pop jam “Countdown,” and later with the ...

50 Cent Criticizes Record Company On Twitter; Postpones Album Release

50 Cent took to Twitter on Thursday June 16 to criticize his record label, Interscope Records, saying that he will be postponing the release of his new album, rumored to be titled Black Magic, until he and his label are able to work together effectively. “Ok I tried to be cool with my record company. I went to the meeting speak to everyone and sh*t feels like there moving in slow motion ,” he tweeted. “I’m sorry to announce I will not be releasing a new album this year if we do not get on the same page.” It’s not ...

Rebecca Black joins Katy Perry in new vid

“Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)” is the fifth single from Katy Perry’s 2010 album Teenage Dream, and so far the acompanying videos have featured aliens, giant anthropomorphic gummy bears, lots of heavy petting and, um, fireworks. Perry’s latest clip raises the bar considerably, featuring the debut performance by Perry’s alter-ego Kathy Beth Terry but also welcomes “Friday” expert Rebecca Black, the three members of Hanson, two stars from Glee, Corey Feldman and Debbie (Deborah?) Gibson to the party (not to mention several dozen extras as well as a copy of Just Dance for the Wii).
