J.Lo’s ‘On the Floor’ video: Your verdict?

About a week ago, we here at The Music Mix posed the question: Is J.Lo back? Well, after watching the music video for her new, Pitbull-laced single “On the Floor” debut on American Idol earlier this evening, the answer is rather resoundingly: Yes! The video (coupled with her genius judging skills on Idol) is a return to glamour and fabulousness for the diva who, less than two years ago, could be found falling off her Louboutins while singing the miserable “Louboutins” at the AMAs.

T.I.: Sales while he is in jail?

Click through to the jump for more of this magazine preview. Even before heading back to jail, T.I. was having a tough couple of years. He spent more than half of 2009 behind bars for a 2008 weapons conviction, and none of the four singles he dropped after his release had much impact on the pop charts. But by the end of this summer, his career seemed to be rebounding. His Aug. 27 motion picture Takers did well, and he was working on a new album, which he had titled King Uncaged.

Stan Honda/AFP/Getty Images; Kevin Mazur Whether you like it or not, Michael Jackson‘s first of many posthumous albums, Michael, is just weeks away from release. Earlier this week, “Hold My Hand,” produced by and featuring Akon, hit the Net as its official single. Even though he let this track out of his vault, don’t anticipate Akon to release any more M.J.

Beatles music on iTunes soon?

Can’t purchase you Beatles on iTunes? That is, after years of negotiations, setbacks, and false starts, about to change. The Wall Street Journal reports that Apple will imminently announce its acquisition of the band’s legendary catalog, famously absent from the digital market place since, well, digital was born. Spokesmen for Apple and EMI refused requests for comment, and insiders state that label EMI could still renege, but if the deal does go through it should be big for both parties, as well as consumers.

Gorillaz: New album before Xmas?

The British singer has been quietly recording the album during Gorillaz’ current tour using his Apple iPad. “I’ve made it on an iPad — I hope I’ll be making the first record on an iPad,” he tells NME. “I fell in love with my iPad as soon as I got it, so I’ve made a completely different kind of record.” If a new Gorillaz album really arrives in stores by Dec. 25, it would be only a few months after the release of their album Plastic Beach this past March.

Christina Aguilera producer: Issue is marketing, not music

Stewart doesn’t think Aguilera needs to switch things up when the time comes to record her next album, either. “I think what Christina does musically is always fine,” he adds. “It’s a matter of if it can be marketed properly. When I listen to [Bionic], I definitely am a fan. More than anything, it was promoted poorly.” In addition to producing five songs for Burlesque, Stewart also recently produced two songs from Michael Jackson‘s posthumous album Michael (due Dec.

Cher: Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Famer?

Image Credit: Michael Ochs Archives/Getty ImagesMusic icon Cher addressed quite a few buzzy topics in her recent cover profile in Vanity Fair—subjects ranged from the demise of her relationship with former (and now deceased) husband Sonny Bono and her son Chaz’s sex change to working with pop star Christina Aguilera in the upcoming, to-be-released-on-Thanksgiving motion picture Burlesque. But one particular point Cher made in the piece stopped me in my tracks—the star thinks she and Sonny have been overlooked for inclusion in one of music’s most coveted groups: the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

The first single from Michael, the set of unreleased Michael Jackson recordings due Dec. 14, is streaming this morning from Jackson’s official site as promised. It hasn’t been made clear exactly to what degree “Breaking News” was finished after the King of Pop’s 2009 death — some have even questioned whether Jackson actually sang on these tracks — and listening may or may not provide a final answer.
