Folk Singer Facundo Cabral Killed in Guatemala

Argentine folk singer and novelist Facundo Cabral was killed by gunmen on Saturday, the Associated Press reports. He was 74. One of Latin America’s most famous folk singers, Cabral was on his way to Guatemala’s airport when his automobile was attacked. The gunmen shot him at least eight times, Guatemala’s city fire department spokeperson said. Concert promoter Henry Farina was injured. It is unclear what the motive was for the attack. Guatemala’s President Alvaro Colom called Argentina’s President Cristina Fernandez about Cabral’s killing, he told Radio 10.
