‘Robin Hood’ to open Cannes Film Festival
“Robin Hood” will shoot the opening volley at Cannes.
The Universal Pictures film that stars Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett has the honor of being the opening-night film for the Festival of Cannes on Wednesday, May 12, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The film, which will play out of competition, rewinds to the origin story of the Robin Hood (Crowe) character, beginning with him as an archer in Richard the Lionheart’s army against Norman invaders. Blanchett will play the equally aggressive and skilled Marion.
William Hurt, Mark Addy, Danny Huston and Max von Sydow also star in the Ridley Scott-helmed film.
The 63rd edition of Cannes runs from May 12-23.
“Robin Hood” officially opens worldwide on Friday, May 14.
